Getting Started with a Daily Bible Reading Plan

When I first started reading my Bible, I was overwhelmed with where to start. But getting started is what matters. One of my first strategies for reading the Bible was opening the Bible and reading the page in front of me.
It worked, and I learned a lot. I would spend time journaling my thoughts on what I had just read. At the time, it was what I needed. Reading my Bible this way helped me to feel less overwhelmed with the thought of daily Bible reading. Those quick moments reading the Bible have led to several in-depth Bible studies.
Now, my daily bible readings are a little more organized. Following Bible reading plans outline specific Bible passages and brief selections of scripture you need to read every day. Over the years, I have completed several different reading plans. Some of the Bible reading plans I have completed include the One Year Bible, Bible Recap, and a Chronological reading plan.
Following Popular Bible Reading Plans
The One Year Bible reading plan outlines a brief selection of scripture every day with Old Testament readings. Then you move on to New Testament readings and Psalms. Plus, you read a proverb every day covering the whole Bible.
The Chronological Bible Reading Plan is a reading plan that jumps back and forth between books of the Bible. This reading plan is focused on the big picture and on the common threads found in the Word of God. However, some people don’t care for this reading plan because you begin with the Old Testament and don’t get to read the New Testament until the end of the year.
Another reading plan I have participated in is the Bible Recap. This reading plan was an easy way to get into the habit of daily Bible study. This reading plan is also in chronological order. The Bible Recap provides a daily podcast that is very helpful in encouraging you to dive deeper into the daily scripture reading.
Following a Bible reading plan has helped me to make sure I am getting into God’s Word every day. It is clear there are many benefits of a steady diet of God. It is an incredible privilege to go on a yearlong personal journey with God by reading His Word on a daily basis.
